The energy market is changing rapidly. To stay ahead, NieuweStroom wants to develop innovative propositions, work in a more customer-focused way, optimize processes, and make decisions based on facts rather than just feelings. Data and AI play a key role in all these aspects. That is why the energy supplier has made data-driven working a strategic pillar. NieuweStroom asked Pipple to help set up a clear data strategy ánd translate it into practice: how to truly bring data-driven working to life in the organization?

A solid data strategy as starting point
The collaboration started with a data strategy journey. Ludo Nuijens, responsible for the transformation to a data-driven organization within NieuweStroom: “Pipple organized workshops with the board, management, and employees to jointly determine where NieuweStroom wants to go and what goals the company wants to achieve with data. An audit mapped out the current data maturity. Based on the Delta model, Pipple advised on the steps needed to grow into a data-driven organization—from the right structure and roles to a future-proof data platform and relevant use cases. The result: a concrete, widely supported plan that NieuweStroom could immediately put into action.”
From strategy to implementation
With the plan in place, Pipple also assisted with its implementation. Together, Pipple and NieuweStroom worked on building a central data team, improving data engineering, and developing clear dashboards, among other things. “Pipple helped create insight to steer based on figures,” says Ludo. “This created a strong foundation on which to build further.” Jules van Ratingen, manager of the Central Data Team at NieuweStroom, adds: “We can now move forward with new dashboards and AI applications. Pipple also provided insight into the composition of our Central Data Team. This was very valuable.”
Concrete result: the savings tool
One tangible result of the collaboration is the savings tool that Pipple developed for NieuweStroom. With a single click, potential customers can see how much they can save by switching to a dynamic energy contract from NieuweStroom. “An incredibly useful tool for our account managers,” says Jules. “Pipple has really added value here.”
A cultural shift
Data-driven working requires more than just good dashboards and tools. It requires a different way of thinking. “Pipple looks at more than just data,” says Ludo. “From the outset, the team emphasized that everyone in the organization had to be on board. The strategy journey got colleagues excited and brought out their own ideas and use cases. By putting these into practice, we were able to show results quickly. This led to a real cultural shift. Pipple played a significant role in this.”
Partnership with energy
The collaboration feels like a perfect match. “Just like NieuweStroom, Pipple is young, energetic, and knowledgeable,” says Jules. “The colleagues are pragmatic, dare to make mistakes, and strive for impact. What’s more, we’ve had a lot of laughs together. Just as we want to be an energy partner rather than an energy supplier, Pipple also strives for partnerships with clients. The company thinks along with us, gives honest advice—even if it’s not the easy answer—and always delivers something that is directly applicable.”
Ready for the next step
After a year of intensive collaboration, the foundations have been laid. The first dashboards have been delivered, the savings tool is live, the data strategy is in place, and the internal team is ready to continue building independently. “We are now moving into a phase where Pipple will be less in the spotlight,” says Jules. “But if we need additional knowledge or sparring, we know where to find the organization. Pipple remains our partner in data.”
